Will you join us on a visit to our manufacturer in Portugal?
We recently paid a visit to our Portuguese manufacturer and are happy to take you through this. Because how fun is it to get a behind-the-scenes peek! So will you join us on a visit to our supplier?

The road to our supplier...
It is a sunny day and we find ourselves on a dirt road in the beautiful Portuguese countryside. The numerous trees beside the road offer shade and sketch a nice contrast to the clear blue sky. On the way, we passed through quaint villages built on steep and winding hills. Once off the dirt road, we arrived at our supplier. It is housed in a modern, well-kept and large building in the middle of nature.

The production process
We receive a friendly welcome and are guided through the production process in detail. Each process in making a unique and handmade piece of ceramic has complex skills, which are carried out by skilled people with years of experience. They are local craftsmen and women, hailing from the area. From modelling, to hand-painting, each has their own specialism that makes each piece of ceramics truly unique!

Above you can see "The Cigars", which is how the cylinders on raw stoneware are called. This is the material from which all the tableware is made. This raw material is also from Portuguese soil. Curious about the difference between stoneware, pottery and porcelain? You can read about it in this blog.
The Cigars are transformed into beautiful tableware and serving ware: cups, mugs, plates, bowls and platters in various organic shapes and sizes, all with a unique finish by human hand. Take a look below at the different stages of the production process of various products:
